Make the request clear.
Identify the contractor, the work or materials, the payment basis, the amount and the payment terms.

Read the actual requirements.
Use the statutory list for your province and the additional information required by your contract.

The details are not universal.
Alberta requires a statement that the invoice is intended to be a proper invoice. Other provinces have different requirements.

Keep what you sent.
Save the delivered version and its attachments. Record the relevant giving or receipt event separately from the printed invoice date.
